Sarah Jessica Parker

Sex and the City’s Sarah Jessica Parker celebrates her 50th birthday this week! (Not that we’re envious in the slightest of how well she’s aged!) And what better way to give a nod to the fashionistas birthday than to dedicate an outfit to her. Just like Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker is not afraid to shy away from cutting edge fashion. This white piece is amazing but it’s not one for the shy….or the clumsy! The co-ordinates shows just a little flesh but keeps the piece sophisticated. To keep the piece summery we’ve teamed it with this seasons colour…Lilac! Just think WWCBW – What Would Carrie Bradshaw Wear!

Which hair to choose?

Difference between Hairs Blog - Header

The hair market is growing rapidly and what with new technological advances it’s almost hard to tell between synthetic hair and human hair nowadays. With so many products on the hair market from Extensions to Ponytails, Wigs to Buns it’s hard to know what to choose. When choosing the right hair product for you there are many things that need to taken into consideration; cost, colour, style, maintenance and one of the biggest aspects is the material it is made out of! Here is your guide to help you to pick the right material and to make sure you are getting what you are paying for!

 Blog - Synthetic Hair

Synthetic hair has come a long way in recent years with technology. From what was usually a very shiny material, lost its style very quickly and looked extremely fake is now manufactured to act and feel like human hair, and in some cases can be extremely hard to tell the difference between both Synthetic hair and Human/Remy hair. The most appealing aspect is that most often than not no styling is required and it can be worn out of the box. The fiber that is used to make the Synthetic hair is made to remember the style which allows the hair to bounce back into the original style with minimum effort, which is handy with the temperamental British weather. This can be a blessing and curse, although it offers ease and effort when it comes to styling it lacks versatility unlike the Human/Remy extensions. If a top-up styling is required most synthetic hair can be heated up to a certain temperature, this would depend on the brand, quality and make on the synthetic hair. Although synthetic hair isn’t made for a lengthy life span like human hair extensions with the right care and attention it can last anything between 8 – 10 weeks. It’s also very cost friendly in the short term.

Blog - Human Hair

Human hair should be 100% made of human hair, it is taken from many different places including cut offs. Unlike Remy hair, this hair is in much greater supply and therefore cheaper than Remy hair. There are 4 main types of hair used for human hair wigs/extensions: Chinese, Indonesian, Indian and European/Caucasian. The majority of the wigs are made from Asian hair, it can be found in greater supply and costs less. European hair is in greater demand however there’s a limited supply of it and therefore very expensive. 100% human hair extensions has the cuticles removed which means the life span will be shorter than Remy extensions. Due to how the hair is collected it has to go through much heavier processing and is covered in silicone to make the hair shine. After a few washes the silicone layer may start to wash off which could mean that the hair would slowly become dull, brittle and could tangle and matt easily. This type of hair material would not be recommended for long-term hair use for example sew-ins, micro-loops or glue-ins. They will last for anything between 3 – 5 months depending on the aftercare and maintenance they receive. Unlike synthetic hair it is not out of the box ‘ready styled’ (unless you would like to wear them straight! Therefore some styling is required.

Difference between Hairs Blog - Header - Remy Human Hair

Blog - Remy Human HairRemy human hair extensions is 100% human hair, however it is processed slightly different to just the human hair extensions. When processing the extensions it is made sure that the cuticles remain intact and that they are aligned in a natural way and face the same direction from root to tip. This enables the extensions to have a natural shine and tangle-free, which is can be a common characteristic with Non-Remy Products or low quality made hair. Because of the method of collection and the processing that they have to go through this type of hair is in short supply which means it can be expensive to purchase, however looked after properly then these extensions can last you a long time. These extensions can last anywhere between 6 to 9 months; again depending on the regular maintenance of them and aftercare of them. Unlike synthetic hair it is not out of the box ‘ready styled’ (unless you would like to wear them straight! Therefore some styling is required.

How can you tell whether it is 100% Remy Human Hair?

One big problem is sellers claiming that their products that they are selling are unprocessed Remy Hair, which is most likely untrue as all hair must go through processing as this ensures the cuticle is aligned. Another issue are companies claiming that their products are 100% Remy Hair but 10-40% of Non-Remy hair is being mixed in in the process. With the technological advances nowadays it is near on impossible for someone who isn’t an expert to be able to tell the difference between the two. However after 2 to 3 weeks if the hair starts to tangle and matt up then you will know that it’s not 100% Remy hair and more importantly the price point, if it’s too good to be true then it more than likely probably is!
